چکیده

Adapting OFDM for vehicular communication requires extensive knowledge of anticipated multipath and Doppler environments. We present a GPS-enabled channel sounding system built and used to conduct a channel measurement campaign. Tests conducted at the 700 MHz band in and around downtown Ann Arbor, Michigan, explored various vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-roadside channel scenarios. The measured channel metrics are used to quantify the effects on guard interval, packet duration, and subcarrier spacing for a functional OFDM system at 700 MHz. This research is one of the first to present vehicular based channel modeling results from measured data in the 700 MHz band.

Range and Range-Rate Measurements Using DSRC: Facts and Challenges

Vehicular network with communication among vehicles and between roadside units and vehicles is a recently emerged field of challenge for researchers. Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) is the nominated communication channel specifically designed for this network. Using DSRC, besides sharing information among vehicles, the distances between the nodes of the network can also be estimated ...

Cluster-Based Beaconing Process for VANET

In this paper we introduce the Cluster-Based Beacon Dissemination Process (CB-BDP) that aims to provide vehicles with a local vehicle proximity map of their vicinity. Based on this map, safety applications can be used for accident prevention by informing drivers about evolving hazardous situations. The CB-BDP is designed under the two following objectives. First, since it is used for safety app...

Clustering, Connectivity, and Monitoring Challenges in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks

Communications among vehicles is an important field of study for transportation systems. Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) are appropriate networks that can be applied to intelligent transportation systems (Nadeem, 2006). VANET is based on short-range wireless communications among vehicles and is built on-the-fly and do not need any investment, except the wireless network interfaces that will ...

Performance and Reliability of DSRC Vehicular Safety Communication: A Formal Analysis

IEEEand ASTM-adopted dedicated short range communications (DSRC) standard toward 802.11p is a key enabling technology for the next generation of vehicular safety communication. Broadcasting of safety messages is one of the fundamental services in DSRC. There have been numerous publications addressing design and analysis of such broadcast ad hoc system based on the simulations. For the first tim...
